What is Kambô?

Kambô or Sapo is a traditional Amazonian practice that involves the use of the secretion of the Phyllomedusa bicolor frog, also known as the giant monkey tree frog (called doe-kiet by the locals). For generations, Indigenous communities such as the Matsés and Katukina have used Kambô within specific cultural and ceremonial contexts, often as part of their relationship with the forest and their way of life. Traditionally, Kambô has been applied in small amounts to the skin through superficial points, allowing the secretion to enter the lymphatic system. Within these communities, it has been used in preparation for hunting, to promote alertness, endurance, sharpen the senses, increase stamina, give a sense of clarity. Interestingly, the Matsés would also recommend Kambô “when you are feeling lazy or when it is raining outside” — a simple yet powerful metaphor for Kambo's ability to shift stagnant energy, restore clarity, and awaken motivation from within.
Kambô Benefits

Kambô works on multiple levels — physical, emotional, and energetic — often creating a deep sense of reset and renewal. Kambo in My Body - (Physical Support) - May support detoxification processes through intense purging (vomiting, sweating) - May stimulate the immune system and increase resilience - May help reduce inflammation and support recovery - May increase energy and physical vitality after the session - Some people report relief from chronic fatigue or brain fog Kambo in My Mind - ( Mental & Emotional Clarity) - May promote mental clarity and sharper focus - Can help release emotional heaviness or stored stress - May support breaking unhelpful patterns or habits - Often described as a “reset” for the mind and nervous system Kambo in My Soul - (Energetic & Spiritual Effects) - Deep energetic cleansing and clearing of stagnant energy - Can bring a sense of grounding and inner alignment - Supports reconnection with self, purpose, and intuition - Many people experience a renewed sense of motivation and direction Traditional & Cultural Perspective - Traditionally used by Amazonian tribes to enhance stamina, awareness, and hunting ability - Regarded as a way to remove “panema” (negative or heavy energy)
Kambo in a Modern Context

Today, Kambô is offered in a modern setting as a guided and intentional experience. While the traditional roots remain deeply respected, the practice is approached with an emphasis on safety, preparation, and individual suitability.
Many people are drawn to Kambô as a way to pause, reset, and reconnect with themselves. It is often experienced as a deeply physical process that invites awareness, presence, and reflection.
Each person’s experience is unique, and there is no single outcome. The process is not about achieving a specific result, but about allowing space for a personal experience to unfold in a structured and supportive environment.
A Physical, Non-Psychedelic Process

Kambô is not psychedelic and does not produce visions or altered states of perception. Unlike other plant-based practices, it works primarily through the body rather than the mind, creating a strong physical response that invites presence, awareness, and release.
For this reason, the experience is often described as direct and grounding, with an emphasis on physical sensation and being fully in the moment. Many people report a heightened sense of clarity and connection after the process, rather than a shift in perception.
What the Experience Involves

A Kambô session typically begins with preparation and intention setting. Small points are then applied to the surface of the skin, through which the Kambô is introduced.
The active phase of the experience is usually short but can be intense. It is followed by a period of rest and integration, allowing the body and mind to settle.
Kambo is known for creating a strong, short, and immersive physical experience that engages multiple systems in the body at once. Many people are drawn to it for the sense of reset, release, and reconnection it can offer.
Because the experience is primarily physical, it is approached with care, awareness, and proper guidance. Each session is adapted to the individual, taking into account their experience level and overall readiness.
Respect for Tradition and Practice

Kambô is approached with respect for its Indigenous origins and the traditions from which it comes. While it is now practiced in different parts of the world, maintaining integrity, safety, and cultural awareness is essential.
Each session is held in a way that honours both the traditional roots of the practice and the needs of the individual in a modern context.
Important Considerations

Kambo is A Personal Experience
Kambo is often experienced as a process rather than a product — one that invites presence, awareness, and connection to the body. For some, it is a way to step out of routine patterns and reconnect with a deeper sense of clarity and grounding.Because each person is different, the experience can vary widely. What remains consistent is the importance of proper preparation, a safe environment, and skilled guidance, ensuring the experience is approached with respect and care.
Kambô is not for everyone
As a strong and purifying practice, Kambô requires careful consideration. Please review the contraindications and cautions to ensure this experience is safe and appropriate for you.
Do Your Own Research
We encourage everyone to take the time to do their own research before deciding to participate in a Kambo session. Understanding the process, the intensity of the experience, and the traditional context in which it is used can help you make a fully informed and aligned decision.
