No alcohol or drugs 48h prior to the ceremony. It is also recommended to arrive well-rested, calm, and with a clear or open intention. We will go through all preparation details together in advance to ensure you feel informed, comfortable, and ready for the experience.
Do I need prior experience? No prior experience is required. First-time participants are guided through the process with clear preparation and ongoing support.
Can I set an intention? Yes. Setting an intention is encouraged and can help bring clarity and focus to your experience, although it is not required. The process will meet you where you are.

During the Session
What can I expect? As a certified IAKP practitioner, my ceremonies follow the international practices of the IAKP and honor the traditional teachings of Amazonian tribes. Every session begins with a thorough screening process to ensure the experience is appropriate for you. We take time to discuss your current state, any relevant considerations, and your intention, creating a safe and supportive foundation before we begin. The session includes drinking water followed by the application of Kambo to small points on the skin. The experience can be intense and may include sensations such as warmth, pressure, nausea, or purging. These responses are temporary and form part of the process.
What is “purging”? Purging is a natural part of the experience and may include vomiting, sweating, or other forms of release. It usually occurs during the active phase of the session and passes relatively quickly. You will be supported throughout this process.
Will I be supported during the experience? Yes. You will be supported and monitored throughout the entire session. The space is held with care, presence, and respect, ensuring you feel safe and supported at every stage.
Is the experience painful? The application points may create a brief, sharp sensation, and the experience itself can feel physically and emotionally intense for a short period of time. Each person’s experience is different, and you will be guided and supported throughout.
How many points are applied? The number of points varies depending on the individual, their experience, and the intention for the session. This is discussed and decided together prior to application.
How long does a session take? A full session typically lasts between 2 to 5 hours, including preparation, the active phase, and integration time. The primary effects are typically strong and fast-acting, usually settling within 30–40 minutes. During the session, additional Kambo or Rapé may be offered if appropriate.
What is your role as a practitioner? My role is to create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment, guide the process, monitor your wellbeing, and hold the space for your experience with care and professionalism. Each session is approached with presence, awareness, and respect for both the tradition and the individual.
Is this a private session? Sessions are typically offered one-on-one, allowing for a personalised and fully supported experience. Small group sessions may also be available from time to time.
After Care
What happens after the session? After the active phase, time is given for rest and grounding. Many people feel calm, clear, or reflective. Integration is an important part of the process, and you will be encouraged to take the rest of the day slowly, stay hydrated, and allow space for your experience to settle.
How often can I participate? This varies from person to person. Some people choose to engage with Kambo occasionally, while others space sessions further apart. This can be discussed based on your individual situation and experience.
Safety & Suitability
Is Kambo for everyone? Who should not participate? Kambo is not suitable for everyone. During the screening process, we will discuss any health conditions, medications, or other factors that may make the experience unsuitable for you. This step is essential to ensure your safety and wellbeing. Please check the Contraindication section.
Is Kambo safe? Throughout the session, you are closely supported and monitored at all times. The space is held with care, awareness, and respect, allowing you to move through the experience safely and at your own pace. Time is given at the end for rest, grounding, and integration before you leave.
Is it a sustainable practice? As a member of IAKP (International Association of Kambo Practitioners) the Kambo that I use is sustainably collected. The IAKP works together with the communities, who collect the secretion for us, to make sure they are working in a way that protects the frogs and the environment that is so vital to their survival.
Is Kambo legal in New Zealand? Kambo is offered within a traditional and cultural context. Sessions are provided in a non-medical setting, and no medical claims are made.
