Kambo Medicine & Body Intelligence
Kambo Medicine & Body Intelligence

People are called to Kambo ceremonies for many different reasons. Some come seeking support for their physical health, hoping to feel more energetic, lighter, or balanced in their bodies. Others are looking for emotional release, mental clarity, spiritual growth, or simply a deeper connection with themselves.

Some arrive with a clear intention, while others are guided by a feeling that something in their life is ready to shift.

Whatever brings a person to the medicine, one observation is shared by many who work with Kambo: the experience often unfolds in ways that are unexpected. While we may arrive focused on one particular challenge, Kambo frequently seems to guide our attention toward deeper layers of our body, mind, and spirit which were unavailable to one's conscious mind.

This has led many practitioners and participants to explore an intriguing possibility — that Kambo does not merely act upon the physical body itself, but rather helps us reconnect wirh the innate wisdom that exists within it.

Within traditional and energetic understandings of Kambo, there is a belief that the medicine does not heal by imposing its own intelligence onto the body. Instead, it awakens and cooperates with the body's innate wisdom — the same intelligence that knows how to heal a cut, repair tissue, fight infection, digest food, and maintain balance without any conscious effort from us.

Many experienced practitioners and participants describe Kambo as a catalyst that helps remove obstacles to health rather than directly creating health itself. In this view, the body already knows what it needs. The medicine simply helps bring that wisdom to the surface.

Moving From the Mind Into the Body

One of the most commonly reported experiences during a Kambo session is a shift away from the thinking mind and into a deeper connection with the body.

In everyday life, many of us spend most of our time in our heads. We analyze, plan, worry, overthink, and often override what the body is trying to tell us.

We may continue working despite exhaustion.

We may ignore digestive discomfort because we are too busy.

We may suppress emotions because they are inconvenient.

We may stay in situations that no longer serve us because they make sense logically, even though something inside us feels uncomfortable.

During Kambo, many people report that this mental noise temporarily loses its grip. The body suddenly becomes impossible to ignore.

Instead of thinking about life, we begin feeling life.

Instead of analyzing, we begin listening.

Instead of controlling, we begin responding.

Many participants describe feeling more present, more grounded, and more connected to themselves than they have in a long time.

The Heart Knows Before the Mind Understands

From personal experience, and from listening to the stories of others who have sat with Kambo, the medicine often feels as though it first activates the heart.

There can be a sense of moving out of the analytical mind and into a more intuitive state of awareness. Rather than trying to figure everything out intellectually, people often describe simply knowing things.

A participant may arrive convinced that their main challenge is physical fatigue.

Yet during the ceremony they suddenly realize they have been carrying grief for years.

Someone else may focus on digestive issues but discover that chronic stress has been affecting every aspect of their wellbeing.

Another person may come seeking physical detoxification and leave with clarity about a relationship, a career decision, or a life direction they have been avoiding.

It is as though the heart sees a bigger picture than the rational mind.

Does Kambo "Know" Where to Go?

One of the questions frequently asked by people new to Kambo is how the medicine seems to affect different people in such different ways.

Ten people can receive the same medicine, from the same batch, in the same ceremony, and yet have ten completely different experiences.

One person may experience emotional release.

Another may feel intense activity in the digestive system.

Another may become aware of tension in the liver area.

Someone else may simply feel a deep sense of peace and clarity afterward.

This diversity of experiences is one reason many practitioners believe that Kambo interacts with the unique needs of each individual.

Some participants describe the experience as though the medicine scans the body from within. Awareness is naturally drawn toward areas that require attention, whether physical, emotional, energetic, or spiritual.

The body already knows where imbalance exists.

The medicine simply creates an opportunity for that information to rise into awareness.

Listening to What the Body Has Been Saying

Sometimes the insights that emerge are surprisingly practical.

A person may realize they have been eating foods that leave them feeling depleted.

Another may suddenly recognize how much tension they carry in their shoulders, jaw, or stomach.

Someone may become aware that they have been running on stress and adrenaline for years.

Others may notice how disconnected they have become from rest, movement, nature, creativity, or meaningful relationships.

These insights are often not new information. They are truths the body has been communicating for a long time.

The difference is that, during Kambo, people often feel able to hear those messages more clearly.

A Physiological Perspective

Even from a physical perspective, Kambo creates a powerful activation within the body.

Circulation increases.

The lymphatic system becomes more active.

The nervous system is strongly stimulated.

The body mobilizes significant resources in response to the experience.

In many ways, it is as though the organism receives a strong signal to wake up and pay attention.

The healing may not be coming solely from the medicine itself. Rather, the medicine may be activating the body's own processes of cleansing, adaptation, regulation, and repair.

Working With Meridian Points

Within more advanced Kambo practices, application points may be selected according to traditional energetic systems and meridian pathways.

The understanding is that specific points have relationships with particular organs, systems, or energetic functions within the body.

For example, practitioners may choose points associated with the liver, kidneys, digestive system, reproductive system, or nervous system depending on the individual's intentions and needs.

The belief is not that the medicine directly fixes an organ. Instead, it may help restore healthy communication and energetic flow through the corresponding pathways, supporting the body's own ability to return to balance.

This understanding is similar to many traditional healing systems, where health is viewed not only as a physical condition but also as a reflection of how energy, emotions, mind, and body interact with one another.

The Body Is the Healer

Whether viewed through the lens of traditional wisdom, personal experience, energetic medicine, or modern physiology, one theme appears again and again:

The body is incredibly intelligent.

Kambo reminds us of this intelligence.

It invites us out of constant mental activity and back into direct relationship with ourselves.

It encourages us to listen more deeply, feel more honestly, and trust the wisdom that already exists within.

And maybe this is one of the greatest teachings of Kambo:

The body is not the obstacle to healing.

The body is the healer.

The medicine simply helps us remember how to listen.

If you feel called to explore Kambo for yourself, one of the most important aspects of the journey is not only the medicine, but also the person holding the space in which the experience unfolds.

At Viva Kambo, I am deeply grateful for the presence of Mihai Efrim as a Kambo practitioner. Mihai brings a rare combination of groundedness, responsibility, strength, and genuine care to every ceremony and every participant.

He approaches this work with deep respect for both the medicine and the individual sitting in front of him, creating a space where people feel safe, supported, and truly seen.

In my experience, healing is not only about the medicine itself. It is also about the quality of presence surrounding the experience. When a space is held with attentiveness, integrity, and heart, it becomes easier for the body's own wisdom to emerge and for the journey to unfold naturally.

Many participants have shared how supported they felt throughout their experience, knowing they were held by someone fully present, calm, and committed to their wellbeing. This grounded and caring approach helps create the conditions in which both Kambo and the body's innate intelligence can express themselves in their own way and in their own time.

For this, I hold deep appreciation and gratitude for Mihai, for the care he brings to this work, for the respect he shows to every participant, and for the strong, steady presence with which he serves the medicine.

If Kambo has been calling you, perhaps the next step is simply to listen. You are the medicine.

With much gratitude, Diana
